New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday offered 10 lakh litres of water everyday for two months to drought-hit Latur district in Maharashtra's Marathwada region.
Kejriwal also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making efforts to resolve the water crisis in Latur and sought his help to send water to the parched district. "Latur is going through an acute water crisis. The central government has decided to send water to Latur by train. This is an admirable step. We have offered to help with 10 lakh litres of water for two months," he said.
"It will be shameful for the entire country if anyone dies due to water crisis in India in the 21st century. It is the responsibility of the entire country to help the people of Latur," he added.
Meanwhile, the Opposition has slammed Kejriwal as Delhi itself has faced water supply disruptions in last three months. Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit said, "First he should provide water to residents in Delhi and then think of sending it elsewhere. There is water crisis in Delhi and he is speaking of sending water to Latur."
