Schools in various districts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand will be closed today due to ongoing Kanwar Yatra and related disruptions. In Uttar Pradesh, schools from classes 1 through 12 in Ghaziabad and Noida will remain closed until August 2. The Noida administration announced that all government and private schools, from classes 1 through 12, will conduct online classes on July 31 and August 1.
The Ghaziabad district administration also announced that schools will be closed from July 29 to August 2 due to traffic diversion issues. Similarly, the district administrations of Muzaffarnagar, Hapur, Meerut, Varanasi, and Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh have declared school closures through August 2. This directive applies to all recognized schools, including primary, higher primary, secondary, CBSE, ICSE, and UP Board institutions in these areas.
This decision follows similar closures already announced for Muzaffarpur and Saharanpur, addressing concerns about traffic congestion and route diversions caused by the large influx of Kanwariyas during the month.
In Haridwar (Uttarakhand), schools will also be closed until August 2 due to the Sawan Mela, which is drawing significant crowds. Haryana, meanwhile, observed a gazetted holiday on Wednesday, July 31, in honour of Shaheed Udham Singh’s martyrdom. This holiday applied to all schools and government offices throughout the state.
