New Delhi: Mahesh Bhatt, the visionary director who once exploded into the scene with his marital drama 'Arth', gave a new meaning to the desire of the flesh, comparing Sunny Leone, the heroine of his latest project 'Jism 2', with Biblical prostitute Mary Magdalene.
Bhatt made an impassioned case for the right of a porn star to rise above her situation, follow her passion and dreams. Mary Magdalene is a controversial figure in Christianity whose role in the life of Jesus Christ has been the focus of numerous debates. Some historians hold the view that she was Christ's highest apostle and wife. However there is no evidence to support such a claim.
Bhatt also mentioned to Amrapali, a royal courtesan in ancient India who later became a disciple of Gautama Buddha. It is said Buddha stayed at her mango grove, Ambapali vana which she later donated to his order.
The source of the remark was the portrayal of Leone in Jism 2 - torn between two men and lusting for both. The Indo-Canadian adult entertainment star plays a role close to her real life in the film as well. She is porn star Izna sent on a secret mission to trap a man she once loved. Bhatt was speaking at the Delhi premiere of the film.
"If you look for the blemishes on the moon, you will only see the blemishes. We have made an erotic film, an adult film. The Censor Board has eliminated 50 per cent of the scenes. But our film is not dependent on that. It has a very powerful story," Bhatt, who has written the screenplay, said.
He said the content of 'Jism 2' is more mature than 'Murder 2', a film Bhatt produced in 2011. "My world view, my thoughts have gone into etching Kabeer's (Randeep Hooda) character," he said. 'Jism 2' hit the theatres on August 3 and stars Arunoday Singh as an intelligence officer. It was directed by Pooja Bhatt.####
