Jayalalithaa files defamation case against Karunanidhi
Karunanidhi had claimed that the Tamil Nadu CM had a personal motive behind banning screening of Kamal Hassan-starrer 'Vishwaroopam'.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday filed a defamation suit against Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief M Karunanidhi and his party mouthpiece Murasoli. Karunanidhi in an article - which appeared in Murasoli - had claimed that Jayalalithaa had a personal motive behind banning screening of Kamal Hassan-starrer 'Vishwaroopam'. The AIADMK chief had described his allegations as "wild and reckless" and had threatened to take legal action against him.

Karunanidhi, however, had stood by his claim and had dared Jayalalithaa to initiate legal proceedings against him for his remarks that she had written a letter to AIADMK founder MGR criticising actor Kamal Hassan. "I have enough evidence. I am ready to produce them in the court when Chief Minister files a complaint," Karunanidhi had said.

Karunanidhi had said that Jayalalithaa wrote a letter to late MGR complaining that Kamal Hassan had not given adequate publicity in the media to him (MGR), who had participated in a special show of a film for raising funds. Reacting to Karunanidhi's charge, Jayalalithaa had said that when MGR was the chief minister she was the propaganda secretary of the party and used to meet and discuss issues everyday and therefore there was no need for her to write a letter when she could talk to the late leader directly. "Since Karunanidhi has made a fantastic charge, it cannot be dismissed lightly. So we will be instituting legal proceedings against Mr Karunanidhi...," Jayalalithaa had told reporters.
