The grandeur of Cholas was resurrected in Chennai as Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa inaugurated the Rs 1,200 crore luxury hotel of ITC Group on Saturday.

Spread over an area of 1.5 million square feet, the design of the 600-room super premium integrated luxury hotel complex ITC Grand Chola was inspired by the longest-ruling dynasty of south India. The Chola kings (300 BC to 1279 AD) were famed for their grand style of temple architecture.

Speaking after the inauguration of the hotel here on Saturday, ITC Group Chairman Y C Deveshwar said Grand Chola is world’s largest green hotel and their second property in the city. “This will alter the tourism and convention landscape in the region,” he said. The hotel’s 100,000 sq ft of banquet and convention facilities is expected to transform Chennai into India’s convention capital, to compete with markets like Singapore and Malaysia. It also has a 30,000 square feet pillar-less ballroom, the largest in the country, besides 10 food and beverage outlets and a 23,000 square feet of kaya kalp spa, ITC’s signature brand. The hotel also boasts of 21,000 square feet of luxury retail space.

The hotel has cutting edge technology that employs one-of-its-kind iPad controlled technology with features created exclusively by the ITC Hotels team.
