Ishrat Jahan case: Mani's lawyer claims CBI forced him to quit

New Delhi: Former Home Ministry official RVS Mani has taken voluntary retirement with his lawyer claiming that he was being harassed by unknown persons in the Ishrat Jahan case. "Mani is being preassurised since he refused to tow CBI line in interrogation. CBI wanted him to indict his seniors in Information Bureau, which he refused. He decided a property matter on August 3 as land officer and on August 7th he was showcaused, this shows attempt to pressurise him," claimed Mani's lawyer K B SINGH.

The CBI has denied the allegations. "Media reports say that a former MHA officer has reportedly applied for VRS citing harassment in the Ishrat Jahan case. CBI completely denies any kind of harassment to the officer," said the CBI official.

Mani had signed the two affidavits in the case in 2009 - the first claimed that Ishrat and the three men killed with her were terrorists from the Lashkar e Toiba, and objected to a probe by the CBI while the second affidavit filed later claimed that MHA was in favour of a CBI probe. An enquiry on both statements are on, which the lawyer claims amounts of harrassment.
