Her paintings are innovative, original and versatile. Her works come from within, and her drawings are mostly inspired by her own experiences. Lynn Bennette – Mackenzie’s love for art is an exhilarating journey for her. Her works are inspired by light, colours and stories from her travel. The Scottish artist, who was in the city to meet local artists and create an awareness on art, has been investigating and making visible the multifarious means used in contemporary painting. She is on an art voyage, discovering the essence and uniqueness of art practised in various parts of India. In a bid to create an awareness about art among her people in Scotland, Lynn, who is part of the International Artist Residency, Scotland, is inviting several artists from across the globe to showcase their creations. During her stay in Chennai, the artist connected with  Shinod, a city-based small-time artist through a social networking site. Impressed by his artworks, Lynn has shortlisted him to travel with her to Scotland in September for the International Artist Residency artfair. She says, “I am in India to meet artists and experience Indian culture. Also, I am working in collaboration with Indian artist Somu Desai, on Ceangal, a project to hold the International Artists Residencies in North West Scotland in September. There will be 10 artists from across the globe participating in it. From Chennai, I have chosen an artist who joined me in the Russian International Art Symposium in 2010, to travel to the International Artist Residency.”Unlike some others, Lynn didn't become an artist by accident. She began drawing with a formal education in art from Gray’s School of Art, graduating in 1990. She is self-conscious about the fact that she was not a born brush painter. Hence, she chooses ink and pen for most of her drawings. She says, “In India, the paintings are vibrant and figurative. I have been inspired so much by the works of great artists here that my next series will range from people to environment, with an Indian touch in the strokes.” Having exhibited her works in more than 30 shows, Lynn is now moving on to becoming a sculptor. “I have always wanted to showcase 3D in my artworks. Currently, I’m working with raw materials like wood, leaf and wool. I haven’t had a show in India yet, but I want to exhibit my 3D works here soon.” Preparing herself for her next show in Scotland, Lynn is also painting a travelogue, that will also be part of the show.
