Indian workers in Singapore tour ICGS Samudra Paheredar

Singapore: Twenty-eight Indians working got a guided tour of a coast guard ship "Samudra Paheredar" as part of an outreach programme by the Indian mission. "The visit to the was part of the outreach programme of the High Commission of India," Ramesh Chaturvedi, Attache Welfare for the commission, said on Monday.

The 10 officers and 91 sailors of the ship also hosted lunch for the visitors, he said. "The visitors undertook a conducted tour of the ship and were briefed on the role, capability and purpose of ships visit to Singapore," he said.

This is the first time that Indian nationals working in Singapore were hosted on board a Coast Guard ship from India as the High Commission has been increasing its interaction with them, he added.

The High Commission's outreach programmes with the migrant workers from India includes visit to their dormitories at regular interval. The outreach programme also involves helping a small cross-section of the workers with cultural and other activities from time to time.

The High Commission said that one of the significant parts of the India-Singapore dynamic relationship is the migrant workers from India who live and work in Singapore mainly in the construction and shipping industry.

These workers' contribution in the journey of Singapore has been immense, the High Commission added.
