KOCHI: The ‘I’ group has emerged winner in the elections to the Kerala Students Union district committees in the Ernakulam Zone with the group getting three districts, and the A group two.The I group wrested Alappuzha district from A group while the latter retained Idukki district. The I group emerged winner in Ernakulam district. However, the A group has won Kottayam district. Devadas Mallan, who got 120 votes, was declared KSU president in Alappuzha. The six-member committee in Alappuzha consists of V Vineesh, R Roshan, V B Shaber, S Baiju, V Praveen and Naufal. In Thrissur, Shoba Subin was elected KSU president. She got 175 votes. The others who were elected as the district members include O J Janeesh, Sham Kumar, Sajeer Babu, Shilpa, Hashi, Dijin and Alphonse. Titu Antony of the I group was elected KSU Ernakulam district president. He bagged the highest number of votes of 297. Jino John, Vipin Raj, Shyam K P, Hasish K H, Nishad A K, Naufal, Vishnu Pradeep, Athira Krishnan and Shyamila N S are the others who were elected to the district committee. The candidature of Muhammed Thouseef was disqualified. Kottayam district which stood with the A group has Jobin Jacob as its president. He got 177 votes of the total votes polled. Geevarghese, Shan Jose, Sobi Joseph, Suvin Pariyath, Nithin Joseph, Sneha, Gowri Shankar and Anju Chellappan were elected to the district committee. The candidature of Sherin Salim, Jobin K and George Pious was disqualified. The A group retained the Idukki KSU district committee. Niyas Ismail who bagged 76 votes was declared KSU district president. P J Jomon, Joby P, Akbar P L, Mobin Mathew, Shelly Mathew, Aneesh Antony and P S Sonu were elected to the district committee. The I group has also emerged victorious in the elections held on February 14 in the Kozhikode Zone that comprises Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram and Palakkad districts. The elections to the Thiruvananthapuram Zone comprising Pathanamthitta, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts will be held on Thursday.
