For the first time in the history of Telangana, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner (CP) Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy has transferred 85 staff working at Punjagutta Police Station ranging from home guard to inspector.
He issued orders attaching them to the Armed Reserve Force (AR) and also ordered them to report at the AR headquarters. This is the first time in Telangana that the entire staff of a police station was transferred.
With the transfers at Punjagutta station, as many as 82 new staff from other police stations were appointed with immediate effect.
The Punjagutta Police Station has been mired with allegations including carrying information on key issues including Former Bodhan BRS MLA Shakeel Amir’s issue to the former government bigwigs.
As most of the key issues have been leaked from the police station, the CP was angered at them and transferred the entire staff with one order. The decision to transfer as many as 85 staff in one go from one police station sent shock waves across the police department in the state.
The Punjagutta Police Station appeared in the headlines with grave allegations in connection with the hit-and-run case opposite Praja Bhavan in Somajguda last month where the prime suspect in the case Rahil Shakeel is the son of former Bodhan MLA Aamir Shakeel.
Rahil Shakeel has been absconding after the accident happened and is suspected to be flown to Dubai. Surprisingly, Former Punjagutta inspector Durga Rao is also absconding, and special teams are on duty to trace him.
Meanwhile, the Punjagutta police arrested Bodhan Police Station Inspector Prem Kumar and a relative of Shakeel. It is learned that the two have helped Rahil to escape to Dubai. Apart from arresting six persons, the Hyderabad Police issued a Look Circular against the former MLA’s son.
