When mixed with divergent thinking, technology can have life-saving implications and a 13-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh, who saved herself and her little niece from a monkey attack with the help of the AI device Alexa is the case in point.
In Uttar Pradesh’s Basti district, Nikita, 13, was playing with her one-year-old niece when they were attacked by a Monkey. As family members were in the other room, the girl commanded Alexa, Amazon’s virtual voice assistant, to bark to scare away the monkey.
The incident took place when Nikita had gone to her sister’s place and was playing with her niece near the kitchen on the first floor of the house. Suddenly, a monkey entered the home after some guests left the door open and made its way to the kitchen, started to throw utensils and attempted to attack the girls.

The baby got scared and started calling for her mother, which triggered the monkey even more. With her family members in another room, Nikita swiftly took advantage of the voice assistant device by commanding it to emit a barking sound. The device then made loud barking noises, scaring the monkey away.
“A few guests visited our home and they left the gate open. Monkeys entered the kitchen and started throwing things here and there. The kid was scared and so did I but then I saw Alexa and asked it to play the sound of a dog. Because of that barking sound, the monkeys were scared and ran away,” Nikita told ANI.
In November last year, a 10-year-old boy was killed in a monkey attack in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district. The attack was so brutal that the child’s intestine was ripped out and he was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police identified the child as Dipak Thakor, who was playing with friends when he was terrorised by a troop of monkeys. According to reports, the monkeys jumped onto the boy and punctured his skin before digging their claws inside.
