She has been the most consistent player in the US Open - winning all of her matches comfortably, including the finals at Flushing Meadows.
Top seed Justine Henin displayed some solid tennis to win her 2nd US Open title beating Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Reaching a grand slam final without dropping a single set and getting past the Williams sisters on route. It would have been foolish not to give Justine Henin the tag of favourite against Svetlana Kuznetsova.
And she kept the faith. Henin was in total control of the match from the start. Watched on by another champion Martina Navratilova - Henin pumped in some blistering shots and forced her Russian opponent to make all the errors.
In just 33 minutes Henin took the 1st set 6-1.
Kuznetsova tried hard to alter the momentum in the 2nd set. Henin though just would not let that happen. She changed the pace of the game, approaching the net more often to win her points.
And soon enough Henin was up 5-2. That's when it all begun to sink in. Henin was on the verge of winning her 7th grand slam title. The crowd got louder with every point - three double faults in one game proof of the nervous jitters Henin was having.
And then with this determined play at the net, Henin completed her triumph. It had been a script well-written. A performance faultless. The match was a reinstatement of who was world number 1.
