Headcount shows decline in number of students

KOCHI: The district level headcount of school students conducted on the sixth working day of the academic year has revealed a decline of five percent in their numbers. The total number of students in the district has declined by 17,076 from that of last year's. This year there are 1,57,853 girls and 1,60,958 boys, making a total of 3,18,811 students. Last year the total was 3,35,887.Only 24,229 students have been admitted to the first standard this time.While there is a decline in the number of students till ninth standard, the number of students in tenth standard has gone up by 614 out of which 576 are boys and 38 girls.
