Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court on Thursday restrained suspended Congress leader Natwar Singh from constructing any structures on a plot of land at the centre of a dispute between him and his younger brother Bharat Singh.
Justice Ashok Parihar of the Jaipur bench of the High Court passed the order for maintaining status quo on the three bighas of land and restrained Natwar and his son Jagat from building any structure on the land that was part of their family's ancestral property at Bharatpur and acquired by the state government in 1972-73.
In his application, Bharat alleged that Natwar and Jagat, with the connivance of the administration in Bharatpur, were about to construct a boundary wall and other structures on the plot.
Bharat alleged the state government, while taking possession of the ancestral property during acquisition proceedings, had officially admitted he was the real owner of the land, and had paid him compensation.
After listening to arguments, the court said status quo should be maintained on the land.
Justice Parihar had recently issued notices to Natwar, Jagat and the state government, seeking their response to the petition filed by Bharat.
Bharat has alleged that the state government had wrongly ordered that the three bighas of land should be allotted at a concessional rate to Natwar and Jagat.
Under existing laws, Bharat had applied for the three bighas to be alloted back to him at a concessional rate.
Natwar was recently suspended by the Congress after being indicted by the Pathak Inquiry Authority that probed charges of his involvement in Iraq's oil-for-food scam.
