SIVAGIRI : The teachings and message of Sree Narayana Guru on tolerance and emancipation of mankind are not meant for any single community, but relevant to all communities and hence universal, observed Chief Minister Oommen Chandy here on Wednesday.The Chief Minister was inaugurating the meeting organised by the Sivagiri Dharma Sangham in connection with the 84th samadhi day of the Guru. He said that Guru was instrumental in realising a social revolution in the state sans caste, creed and religion. The life and teachings of the great spiritual leader hold great value for the present as well as future generations, he said.Sivagiri Dharma Sangham president Swami Prakasananda delivered the benedictory address. Ports and Excise Minister K Babu presided over the meeting.In his keynote address, P T Thomas MP, said that an earnest attempt should be made to bring out a comprehensive biography of Guru. “Though there are many biographies of the Guru, one which presents the totality of the personality is yet to come,’’ he said. He also called for the establishment of an International Sree Narayana Guru Study Centre.Thomas, who convinced the Kendra Sahitya Akademi to translate the biography of Guru, authored by Dr T Bhaskaran, into 23 languages including English, said that 65 works of the social and spiritual leader in Malayalam, Tamil and Sanskrit would be translated into various Indian languages soon.A Sampath MP and Varkala Kahar MLA, also spoke at the function. Special poojas and recital of Guru’s works were also held at the samadhi.
