With a few political party offices, colleges and apartments opting for eco-friendly Ganesh idols over the ones made of plaster of Paris, the nature now has something to be happy about. The eco-friendly Ganesh idols, adorned with flowers and tilak stand gracefully in competition with their counterparts.A few venues with the ecofriendly Ganesh idols in their premises are the Aurora Business School, the Telugu Desam Party Office, Vasavi Lifestyle apartments under the Uma Nagar Welfare Association, Sukuki apartments in B S Maktha and also on the Military Road in Bowenpally. The awareness on eco-freindly Ganeshas has been maximum this year in comparison to that of last year, with a lot of campaigns being organised by the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board in association with a few non-governmental organisations and workshops by the National Green Corps and the Andhra Pradesh Bal Bhawan to inculcate the advantages of using these ecofriendly Ganesh idols.Insisting on the use of these eco-friendly Ganesh idols, a resident of Nallakunta, Sangeeta Kulkarni says, “I think it is high time people start using these eco-friendly Ganesh idols and help in preventing the pollution of lakes in the city.We should try and contribute in these small little ways, which will definitely create a much better environment for us to live in.” Agreeing on similar lines is a software engineer, Vyshnavi Bonala. She says, “I think it’s the best way to spread awareness about environmental pollution.Because people in our country are very religious and would definitely pay attention if the issue has got something to do with God.So, it is the best way to create awareness with these ecofriendly Ganesh idols and probably use similar techniques in other instances as well.” Moving on to school children, who have been very active this year by participating in workshops on making Ganesh idols with clay, also agree with the same.Shruti Raj, a student of Sri Chaitanya Techno School, says, “I think eco-friendly Ganesh idols look very cute.I also won a prize for making a Ganesh with clay.I really like them and will make sure we bring those at home every year.” But, many of them disagree with the fact that following these measures once a year do not really help in preventing pollution. One such citizen is an Wukkalam Sreekiran, an aerospace engineer. He opines that, “Eco-friendly Ganesh idols are a good idea, but it is not effective. I mean being ecofriendly just once a year is a little weird.”
