Government will protect Northeast people

Home and Deputy Chief Minister R Ashok, who is on a two-day goodwill visit to Assam and Manipur states, has reassured the Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogai that the State Government will provide protection and security to the people of Northeast origin.

There has been no incidents of violence in Karnataka, Ashok has told him. According to a press release from Ashok’s office, he had a meeting with the Assam Chief Minister.

Gogoi was “impressed with the way in which the State Government swung into action to tackle the issue.” He also thanked Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar over phone.

Mentioning that people who have fled are returning to Bangalore again, the Assam CM said, “Assam has always had a good relationship with Karnataka and the people of Assam look forward to continuing this. Both states should work together to defeat the vested interests who are trying to create an unpleasant situation.”
