HYDERABAD: Concerned over the uncertainty in fuel availability for generating power and also increasing gap between demand and supply of power, the state government is planning to take up massive promotion of energy conservation. The officials were confident that the state can conserve 20-30 per cent energy through energy conservation methods that were not only economically viable but also remain environmental-friendly.Speaking to mediapersons here on Friday, APTransco joint managing director K Ranganadham said there is an enormous potential to optimise power demand through energy efficiency and conservation measures.“Energy consumption has been increasing by 10 per cent every year. As a result, the gap between demand and supply has remained constant with about 10 per cent deficit in peak hours. Hence, we have decided to promote energy conservation in a largescale,” he said. Measures include infrastructure planning, demand-side management, energy pricing and consumer awareness. The distribution companies have been implementing High Voltage Distribution System on a large-scale for serving agricultural pump sets to reduce losses by 10 per cent. They have also initiated agricultural feeder segregation to reduce distribution losses further in rural network. To enhance self-sufficiency and reduce energy dependence on the grid, it has been proposed to take up solar street-lighting.
