Government forms committees on handloom package

The director of handlooms and textiles and apparel export parks is implementing the central government's restructuring package for the revival and reform of the handloom sector on the basis of the recommendations made by a task force comprising former NABARD managing director Karmakar. The package is to be implemented between March 31, 2010 and December 31, 2012. The state government accepted the package whose implementation requires updating the books of accounts of all the primary weaver societies and apex weaver societies which were audited on March 31, 2010. The state government will assist NABARD in implementation of the package which includes identification of the viable and potentially viable weaver societies as per the package norms and conduct of special audit exercise and also write off of the individual weaver loans as per the scheme guidelines. For implementing the package before December this year, the government constituted the State Implementation Monitoring and Review Committee (SIMRC) and District Implementation Monitoring and Review committees (DIMRC) on Saturday. The principal secretary (industries & commerce) will head the SIMRC.
