Gold leaf in dosas

BANGALORE: Bangaloreans can now treat themselves to a Dosa with a Gold Leaf layer on it thanks to Raj Bhog, a new restaurant that opened in Malleswaram on Wednesday. Located on Margosa Road, Raj Bhog provides visitors with 101 different varieties of dosas along with other fast food and a sizzler cafe which will open within the next fortnight.Procured from Uttar Pradesh, the gold leaf comes in a pack of two and costs `590 per leaf. “We use one leaf on the top of each dosa, the dosas are priced at `1,011,” said Prabhushankar, proprietor. He also said that the gold leaf has several health benefits and that is the reason it has always been used in Indian culture. “We used to get silver and gold leaf in pan and sweets. We have brought the same to dosas,” he said. Explaining the USP of the restaurants, proprietor Chandan Lokesh, said, “We are the first restaurant in the State and probably the country to bring a gold leaf covered dosa for our customers. There is a lot more to us however and we offer various different styles of food over three floors.” He also added that there are close to 60 lakh people who depend on hotels for their daily food and this would be a large market. “This is an innovative concept and will certainly capture the attention of the public. The wide range of food on offer shall ensure a returning clientele,” said C N Ashwath Narayan, MLA, Malleshwaram who presided over the inauguration.
