BNAGALORE: An 18-year-old girl committed suicide by setting herself on fire after she was allegedly raped by her boyfriend. The incident took place at Indira Priyadarshini Nagar in Rajagopalanagar police station limits.
The deceased has been identified as Kavitha. She was admitted to Victoria Hospital on Saturday and succumbed to injuries on Monday evening.
DetailsOn Saturday afternoon, when Kavitha's family members had gone out, Manjunath came to her home and was allegedly raping her. Kavitha's brother Bhima came home and caught him. However, he managed to escape from Bhima. However, Kavitha felt insulted by the act and set herself ablaze, the police said.However, a source in Rajagopalanagar police station said that Kavitha had given consent for physical intimacy. "As she was caught by her brother in the act with her boyfriend, she feared that her brother would punish her severely and committed suicide," the source gave details.
