CHENNAI: Chennai will witness a dawn-to-dusk duathlon of sorts on Sunday (January 8). The event, organised by Round Table India, will feature around 600 people participating in a six-hour run around the IIT Madras campus, followed by six hours of bicycling. The proceeds raised from the event would be used for building classrooms and funding the education of underprivileged students.The runners and cyclists will be led by city-based athlete Neville J Bilimoria. The run will begin at IIT Madras campus at 9 am on January 8 and will see around 600 IIT students take part. Around 50 runners of the Chennai Runners will also take part. The students will take part in a seven km run, after which Bilimoria and the Chennai Runners will continue running till 3 pm.At 3.05 pm, R Sekar, ADGP (Railways) is set to flag off the cyclists, who will take the East Coast Road and continue cycling till 9 pm, when they will end their rally at a resort in Mahabalipuram, where the three-day celebrations to mark 50 years of Round Table India is expected to culminate. The pack of cyclists will consist of members of the Tamil Nadu Cycling Club and BREVETS - Madras Randonneurs.“We are expecting to cover a total of around 50 km on the run and over 100 km on the cycles,” said Bilimoria.
