Full house for Big B in Parliament
Bachchan visited Parliament House for the swearing-in of his wife Jaya Bachchan as a Member of the Rajya Sabha.

New Delhi: The arrival of superstar Amitabh Bachchan to Parliament House on Monday virtually threw the security out of gear, as he was mobbed by a large number of onlookers as well as journalists.

Bachchan, a former Lok Sabha Member, visited Parliament House to witness the swearing-in of his wife Jaya Bachchan as a Member of the Rajya Sabha.

Flanked by a posse of security men, the Big B waded through the milling crowd and reached the Rajya Sabha's visitors gallery to watch the proceedings.

No sooner did he enter the gallery, his celluloid colleague and Lok Sabha Member Jaya Prada (seated in the visitor's gallery) and a few others rose to offer their seats. Acknowledging their gesture, Bachchan with folded hands said he was comfortable in the third row.

The superstar, before the House assembled for the day, also responded to the greetings of some Members already seated in the House, with folded hands.

The portals of the House were soon thronged by a huge crowd after word spread about Bachchan's presence in Parliament.

Bachchan also selectively agreed to sign autographs. Some were seen capturing him in their cellphone cameras.

Clasping the hand of his daughter, Shweta, Bachchan took quite a while to leave the precincts of Parliament as he found it difficult to break away from the crowd.

He was seen hugging his wife after she came out of the House when Rajya Sabha adjourned for the day.

Bachchan also greeted film star Dara Singh and BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on the way.

He was seen leaving the Parliament premises in the company of UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, SP leader Amar Singh and Jaya Prada.
