Also, waste is being dumped in the river. The project ‘Jalatharangini’ aims at cleaning the river by removing waste, water plants and cutting trees on the riverbank. As of now, upto 1.5 km of river has been cleaned and we expect to finish the work on the remaining stretch in another month, said A R Padmadas.“The works on the Kuzhuvelil Bridge and Arakkakadavu Bridge is in progress. Presently, there are 70 volunteers from Kochi and Tripunithura are working on the cleaning project. There are plans to plant flowering trees on the riverbank and start motorboat patrolling to prevent dumping of plastic wastes in the river,” he added. The RRF is planning a procession after the completion of the project. The forum also plans to develop the place into a tourist centre.
