Chennai is hosting South Asia's first Formula 4 night street race on August 31. The events lined up include track inspections, practice sessions, and qualifying rounds on the 3.5 km circuit

The much awaited Formula 4 car race is set to start in Chennai on Saturday. Chennai will be the first city in South Asia to host a Formula 4 street race at night. It is noteworthy that the race will be held on the longest street circuit in South Asia.

While arrangements have been made for the public to watch the car racing event and tickets are currently on sale, let us find out what we can expect on the first day.

At around 11 am, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) will be inspecting the roads around the Island where the racing event will be held. After the one-hour inspection, the association will issue a certificate and a permit.

Following this, racers will be allowed a half-hour time to get to know the race track. This will be done in the 30 minutes between noon and 12.30 pm. The practice races will then start from 1.45 pm when the racers of the Indian Racing League will train.

The first qualifying round for the Chennai Formula 4 race will be from 7.40 pm to 7.50 pm for 10 minutes. The second qualifying round will be from 7.55 pm to 8.05 pm. This will be followed by the Indian Racing League qualifiers from 8.20 pm to 8.30 pm. The events for the first day will reportedly end at 9 pm.

The Tamil Nadu government through the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority has set up the Chennai Formula Racing Circuit and is organizing the Indian Racing League car race.

The Tamil Nadu government is also going to organize the country’s first night street circuit race on Saturday (August 31) and Sunday (September 1). The race is held on a circuit with a circumference of 3.5 km. The circuit is located on Island, War Memorial, Napier Bridge, Swami Sivananda Road and Mount Road.

Commuters have been informed of several traffic diversions in the area around the Island. They can also avail the metro service for free with a special metro ticket.
