KALPETTA: Sulthan Bathery Police have arrested former CPM MLA P Krishnaprasad in connection with waving black flags at the motorcade of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and allegedly attacking policemen during his visit to Wayanad district on Friday. Krishnaprasad, along with five other CPM workers, was arrested on Sunday morning when they reported at the Bathery police station in connection with the case charged against them on Friday. Krishnaprasad had staged a sit-in at the police station demanding the release of five CPM-Adivasi Kshema Samithi workers towards midnight on Saturday. The workers were released in the wee hours of Sunday after discussions between CM and police officials. Those arrested were produced at the First Class Judicial Magistrate Court in Sulthan Bathery and were released on bail.Meanwhile, district administration has slapped prohibitory orders in the Meenangadi police station limits from Saturday fearing that the landless tribals under the auspices of Adivasi Kshema Samithi will encroach into the controversial land of M V Shreyams Kumar MLA at Krishnagiri in Bathery Taluk. A large posse of police has been guarding the 14.42 acres of land possessed by the legislator. The High Court in an order in June had directed the MLA to surrender the land to the state and the High Court also directed the government to take over the land if the MLA fails to act in tune with the order. In a recent verdict, the Supreme Court also directed the High Court to settle the issue within two weeks. However, later on the day, leaders of Adivasi Kshema Samithi announced that they would violate the prohibitory orders on Tuesday and would set up huts in the Krishnagiri Estate.
