ROURKELA: Unlike previous years, the festive spirit of Durga Puja is missing this year. Till Sasthi Puja on Sunday, artisans were busy giving final touches to the ‘medhas’ and idols with many of them running behind schedule. The flair for innovation in puja pandals is also not there this time.Locals attributed the dull scenario to various factors, including delay in restructuring of the Central Puja Committee (CPC). The committee members said for technical reasons, they got little time for preparations. Durga puja here will be celebrated by 105 puja committees, including the 95 committees under the CPC fold. This year, the sector-1 committee has set up a pandal replicating Lal Quila and the sector-8 pandal is modelled on the lines of Akshardham temple. Sector-16 is replicating Puri temple and sector-2 is designing its pandal as a royal palace.Rourkela SP and CPC chairman Himanshu Lal on Sunday convened a meeting for smooth conduct of the festival. He said force deployment would be stepped up and advised CPC members to strictly adhere to guidelines. The SP asked CPC members to use cranes to lift large idols. Immersion will take place on October 7.
