New Delhi: A Facebook page that published a list of inter-faith couples and asked people to attack them was taken down by the social media giant.
The page, ‘Hindutva Varta’ (discussion on Hindutva), published names and Facebook profiles of the couples, asking “Hindu lions” to “hunt down” Muslim men on the list. However, the page made no mention of how it got the names of the inter-faith couples.
The posts sparked social media outrage which was further escalated when the admin of the page identified himself on Twitter.
On Monday, Twitter user Satish Myalavarpu, claimed responsibility for running the page.
“I am proud to be owner of the page...will create another page again,” he wrote on the micro-blogging site.
Alt News, a website which claims to combat of fake news, had archived the page before it was taken down, and reported that it was not the first time that the page had posts which propagated violence.
In a video posted on the page, a father can be seen teaching his daughter on how to use a gun. In another post, a man can be seen getting beaten up by a group of men. The accompanying post reads, “along with the cow, the person who slaughtered it will also be dead.”
Facebook is yet to respond to News18’s queries. This story will be updated as and when the social media organisation responds.
