KARIMNAGAR: Former Janasakthi group commander and husband of Congress MPTC Sujata, Chevula Mallesam alias John, was shot at by an unidentified person at Mucharla in Gambhiraopet mandal in Sircilla division on Friday night. Mallesam suffered an injury in the thumb on his right hand. The incident came to light on Saturday.According to police, the unidentified person, carrying a revolver, opened fire at Mallesam when he was returning home after attending a function at his relative's house in Mustabad. He was speaking to the villagers at the Indira Gandhi statue in the village when the unknown person fired at him and fled the place.Sircilla Rural CI Vijay Kumar, along with his staff, reached the village on Saturday and enquired the villagers about the incident. Later, speaking to mediapersons, the CI said that a case was registered.Meanwhile, Mallesam ruled out role of Janasakthi leaders behind the incident. Naxalites issue a warning before killing the targeted persons, he said.Mallesham worked as Manair area group commander for six years.In 2005, he was arrested by police in Kamareddy in Nizamabad district. After being released on a bail, he began living in Mucharla, of which his wife is the MPTC member.
