EVKS targets MK, says defeat due to graft

CHENNAI: Congress leader and former union minister EVKS Elangovan on Wednesday attributed the DMK-Congress alliance’s poll defeat to corruption and “dominance of DMK president M Karunanidhi’s family.”Speaking at a Youth Congress hunger strike condemning yoga guru Baba Ramdev for his broadsides against party chief Sonia Gandhi, Elangovan said Karunanidhi had criticised the Congress for the poll debacle. “Even ordinary people are aware that it is the rampant corruption and domination of his family that led to the debacle. But some leaders are deliberately blaming Congress,” he said.Elangovan, referring to Karunanidhi’s now famous “wrongful friendship would end in trouble” statement, wondered why he had to be so evasive and wanted him to directly criticise the party if he had the courage. On Anna Hazare and Ramdev, he said “fundamentalist forces had provoked the duo” to unseat the Congress government at the Centre and said Ramdev should be arrested.He said the AIADMK government was doing well to begin with.
