A final decision on the EAMCET counselling for engineering aspirants was postponed for another day as the private engineering colleges continued discussion on the framework proposed for fee structure.
Representatives of various engineering colleges will meet the deputy chief minister on Monday for a final representation. “Colleges that had not submitted complete data in response to the Supreme Court’s direction are continuing their discussions. After a decision is reached among such colleges, we will approach the deputy chief minister for finalising the framework,” said Nimmatoori Ramesh, general secretary of the Consortium of Engineering and Professional College Managements Association.
The government had proposed differential fee structure with a fee hike to Rs 35,000 per year from the existing Rs 31,000 for the seats in merit quota for 2012-13. Around 133 private engineering colleges responded to the Apex Court’s order with complete details, including their number of faculties, as well as additional guidelines by regional committee of AICTE. These colleges were unanimous in their acceptance of the fee hike proposed by the government.
“We had a discussion between the 107 colleges, which replied to the apex courts’ undertaking strictly according to the norms set by them and not AICTE regional committee, and the 470 colleges, which did not respond to the undertaking. We will demand that the fee for category A seats (merit seats) be made uniform for all colleges, including the 133 colleges. Further, the counseling date should be fixed as soon as possible. We will table our demands on Monday,” said K.V.K Rao, chairman of the Consortium of Engineering Professional Colleges Managements Association.
In the process, the classes of the students awaiting for the couselling are delayed. The proposed date of counselling is August 6, though, results for the EAMCET were announced on June 29.
