KOCHI: Modern society is not considering drama as a serious medium, film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan said here on Friday. “Earlier, one-act plays used to be performed in schools. But now, that too is not happening. Plays are not even getting proper venues,” Adoor said after releasing the book, “Ningalenthanu Ente Kuttiye Perumazhayathu Nirthiyirikkunnathu”, a drama written by John T Vekkan. Adoor said plays were not given enough prominence even in School of Dramas. “So far, no significant change has happened in scripting and presentation of dramas. Professionalism too is disappearing from the drama field. Nowadays, youths are approaching films as well as documentaries with great passion, but they too are neglecting plays,” he added. “Ningalenthanu Ente Kuttiye Perumazhayathu Nirthiyirikkunnathu” is published by Vaikom Thirunal Nataka Vedhi.
