HYDERABAD: Lying on his bed at the Government Fever Hospital at Nallakunta here, 75-year-old Balaiah writhed in pain in his left thumb whose flesh was bitten off by a stray dog at Siddipet in Medak district on Friday.Hospital authorities are suspecting that it could be a case of rabies. Recalling his traumatic experience, he said that at around 9.30 pm on Friday, when he was in deep sleep outside his home, a dog bit his thumb. Before he could realise that it was a dog, it peeled off flesh and ran away.“In our village several of us sleep outside our houses. The dog, suspected to be mad, went on biting one person after another,’’ he said.Similar was the experience of Bhumamma who suffered a deep wound on her leg. In the case of Devaiah, a farmer, the attack took place at 5:30 p.m. while he was on his way to his agricultural field.“I saw the dog walk alongside me. When I looked at its face, it suddenly came at me in one big jump and bit me at several places on my leg,” he said.
