New Delhi: In view to provide an alternative mode of transport for Delhiites, the city's Transport Minister Gopal Rai today flagged off three solar autorickshaws.
A senior government official said these autorickshaws, made by a private company, have been assembled using parts of autorickshaws which are more than 15 years old.
"The transport minister today flagged off three autorickshaws, which run through solar energy. Solar panels are installed on the rooftop of these vehicles.
"On a trial basis, solar autorickshaws will now run between ITO and Delhi Secretariat. If the department gets good results about the project, these solar vehicles will be allowed to run across the the capital ," an official said.
The official said this is the first time that solar autorickshaws will ply on the roads of the national capital.
"These vehicles have been made assembling parts of CNG-run vehicles which had completed their life," he added
