New Delhi: An alleged serial sexual offender and murderer, who has been involved in over a dozen such cases in Delhi and neighbouring region since 2009, has been arrested from the national capital, police said on Sunday.
The 24-year-old accused, identified as Ravinder Kumar, a native of Badaun in Uttar Pradesh, was presently residing at Utsav Vihar, Karala, in Outer Delhi, they said. He was arrested in connection with rape and murder of a 6-year-old girl in Begumpur area, after a non-stop search by ten teams of Outer Delhi Police, DCP (Outer District) Vikramjit Singh said.
The girl was reported missing on July 14 morning and an FIR was registered in this case at the Begumpur police station. During the search operation, dead body of the kidnapped girl was found in a semi-constructed three-storyed house, about 50 m from the house of the girl, he said.
"My daughter went to the washroom in the morning. She did not come back. We searched till 10.30 in the morning. When we found her, she was dead," said the victim's father.
Some papers and a driving license were found on the second floor of the vacant house.
The driving licence was issued in the name of one Sunny who was found to be admitted in a hospital. Sunny told cops that Ravinder, his brother Sunil and a juvenile accomplice of them had beaten him up at Utsav Vihar and snatched his motorcycle, driving licence, mobile phone and Rs 2000.
Following this tip-off, police teams zeroed in on arresting the absconding trio. As per the background check, it was found that Ravinder had earlier been arrested in connection with an FIR registered under sections of IPC and the POCSO Act at the Begumpur police station on June 4 last year.
On sustained interrogation, he told police about his involvement in the case and about 15 other similar cases in Delhi, National Capital Region (NCR) and western UP, Singh said.
There were adequate evidences including scientific ones to prove involvement of Ravinder in the crime. He usually targeted small kids whom he could easily pick up, the officer said.
