'That Made Me More Proactive..': Glenn Maxwell Reveals Turning Point From 201-run Knock Against Afghanistan
Glenn Maxwell admitted that he had a few lifeline en-route his 201-run unbeaten knock but stated that he was 'proud' of his effort nonetheless.

Glenn Maxwell looked back on arguably the greatest-ever knock in the history of ODI World Cup 2023 and admitted that the lifeline which he received when being given LBW out made him more ‘proactive’ as he fired Australia in the World Cup semifinals.

Five-time champions Aussies locked horns against Afghanistan hoping to secure their place in the semifinals, but they found themselves facing the prospect of one of the greatest ever upsets in World Cup history.

Chasing 292, after Ibrahim Zadran etched his name in the history books by becoming the first-ever Afghanistan batter to score a century in the World Cup, Australia were reduced to 91/7.

Worse still, Maxwell received three major lifelines, he was dropped twice, and once he was also given LBW out, but the all-rounder asked for a DRS review. The replays showed that there was no nick off the bat and Maxwell started to walk away towards the dugout only to see the ball going over the stumps, and he let out a wry smile, a huge sigh of relief.

When quizzed after the match about his plans as the Aussies were 91/7, Maxwell said he simply wanted to play his shots and be positive.

“Not too much, just stick to the batting plans as much as possible, for me, still be positive, still look to play my shots, that LBW, it was going just above (the stumps), probably that made me be more proactive,” said the 35-year-old.

Maxwell also acknowledged that he did receive a couple of let off, he hoped his inning had come without those but stated that he was proud of his effort nonetheless.

“It would have been nice if it was a chanceless knock, but I had my chances, to make the most of it tonight was something I can be proud of. Amazing, after the first two games, people were quick to write us off. The belief was always there (as a team), after today, it would have gone a bit higher,” he stated.
