New Delhi: The Delhi Police have arrested three people, including an international athlete with 25.650 kg of a contraband drug, meow meow. The cost of this drug is said to be Rs 50 crore in the international market.
Those arrested are -- Amandeep Singh (29), Harpreet Singh (30), and Harnish Sarpal (36).
A team of the special cell had received a secret information about Amandeep, who along with his associates, would be flying to Mumbai to get the meow consignment.
On the intervening night of February 13 and 14, specific information related to Amandeep and his associates was received. They boarded a train to reach Delhi. The tip-off further disclosed that the duo was carrying a heap of contraband ‘Meow-Meow’ drug.
The police team swung into action and laid a trap at all the important exit points and other places to cover up the footfalls at the New Delhi Railway Station.
When the police team moved towards the suspects, they perhaps sensing police’s presence, started running in the opposite direction.
However, they were nabbed after police chased them down. At the time of arrest, they were in possession of 25kg of contraband drug known as ‘Meow-Meow’.
According to Sanjeev Yadav, DCP special cell said, "These days ‘Mephedrone Drug’ (Meo-Meow) is commonly used by the youngster, especially, in rave parties in Mumbai, Delhi and, other metropolitan cities of India. This drug is frequently supplied to the consumers by some traffickers, hailing from Delhi and Mumbai. This contraband drug comes usually from African sub-continent and reaches India. The same is also supplied to UAE, UK, USA, Europe and other Middle-East countries. This dangerous drug is believed to be the appropriate substitute for cocaine drug."
Harpreet Singh, a resident of Delhi's Jail Road, was a discus thrower. He represented and won a silver medal for India at the Commonwealth games 2004. He had also won a bronze medal in SAF games in 2006.
Harpreet, however, couldn't participate in the 2010 Commonwealth Games due to injury. He took part in some other national-level athletic championships in which he was debarred from the events after testing positive in a dope test.
During interrogation, Amandeep said that after completing his class 12 examination, he did a diploma in Hospitality and Tourism from the UK. He came in contact with one Kishan, who belonged to Rajasthan and Hanish from New Delhi.
He also confessed that the trio would take drugs at parties. Amandeep also told the police that he tried getting a permanent job but to no avail.
Hence, he returned to Delhi and tried keeping himself busy in several private professions. However, due to a meagre income, Amandeep couldn’t enjoy his life to the fullest, police said.
It was Kishan who offered them to join his ‘drug-paddling’ business, which is spread beyond the international borders. Allured by the rosy pictures shown by Kishan, and in an effort to make quick money, the duo agreed to his proposal. They also received heavy remuneration for shaping 3-4 deals.
After quitting the sport, Harpreet had started a property dealing business in the local market. However, a slump in property business post-2013 forced him to leave the business and sit at home. Sitting idle also led to spending his previous savings.
Harpreet, then, got in touch with Amandeep with whose help he joined the drug-paddling business. Since Harpreet was in dire need of money, he started working as their active associate and supplied drugs. Gradually, he started receiving a good amount of commission against each deal.
Accused Hanish was arrested at the instance of accused Amandeep and Harpreet Singh on the night of February 15. Police also recovered 650g of drugs from him.
Modus Operandi of Syndicate:
In the illicit trade of drug-paddling, every gang member has a specific role to play. So far, Kailash Rajput, who is presently residing in Dubai, and Kishan, who is presently residing in the UK, are known to be the kingpin of this gang.
Kishan has a chain of his associates in Mumbai. When the consignment reaches Mumbai, Kishan and Kailash Rajput co-ordinate with their Delhi and Mumbai-based agents (Amandeep, Hanish and Harpreet Singh are Delhi based agents) and are directed to fetch the consignments. They, then, subsequently send the drugs to UAE, UK, USA, Malaysia and other Middle-East Countries for which they are paid appropriately.
