CUMBUM/KOCHI: Two members of the Empowered Committee constituted by the Supreme Court, on Friday visited Idukki and Siruthoni dams and collected details of seismograph recordings in the area in recent times.There has been reports that quakes of low intensity were frequently occurring in the region. Central Water Resource secretaries C D Thatte and K K Mehta came to Kariman in Lower Periyar area of Idukki district and collected seismograph recordings in the Electricity Board office. The team also inspected Idukki and Siruthoni dams.Representing Kerala, M K Parameswaran Nair, chairman, Mullaperiyar Cell, James Wilson and P Lathika, chief engineer, Irrigation Department, accompanied the panel members. R Subramanyam of Cauvery Cell and Chief Engineer Rajagopal represented Tamil Nadu.On Saturday the panel will visit Mullaiperiyar dam. “On Friday the panel studied how the reservoirs are maintain-ed, the need for repair work and the capacity of the Idukki dam. The panel will visit Mullaiperiyar dam from 8 am on Saturday. They will also check the results of the tests carried out at the dam,” officials said.
