ALUVA: The rash and negligent driving of a tipper lorry driver claimed the life of a cyclist at Nalam Mile on the Aluva - Perumbavoor Road here on Thursday morning. The deceased is identified as K V Raju, 31, of Kattingal Colonypady. A student of Jai Bharath College in Perumbavoor, who was given a lift on the bicycle, suffered serious injuries, and was rushed to a private hospital in Kochi. Eye-witness accounts say the tipper lorry, loaded with river sand, was speeding. The driver had lost control of the tipper lorry while overtaking a vehicle. It hit the bicycle, killing Raju on the spot. The postmortem examination was held at Aluva District Hospital.Raju is survived by mother Susheela, wife Chinchu, and son Akhil.
