HYDERABAD: Despite the Traffic Police’s tough stand against drunken driving, on the ground, they seem to be going easy on girls.They had trained a group of 10 women constables and SIs too for the purpose but after the first such drive in February, the cops seemed to have developed cold feet. Only one woman, who was driving in an inebriated condition, was hauled up so far. One reason, cited two weeks back, was that the police wanted to retain the element of surprise to catch the fair sex found to be driving after consuming alcohol. This time, a police official said on condition of anonymity that they did not conduct the drive in view of Ugadi. They, however, went ahead with the regular drive against men.When contacted, DCP (Traffic) GVG Ashok Kumar said that there was no specific reason why the drive against drunken women was not conducted over the weekend. As many as 142 men were arrested and their vehicles seized during the enforcement against drunken driving conducted on the intervening nights of March 24 and 25. The police said the vehicles include 47 fourwheelers, 85 two-wheelers and 10 three-wheelers. The police had conducted the drive at 11 places across the twin cities. Earlier this month, they had booked 186 cases on March 3 and 85 on March 16.
