KOCHI: The six-day container strike by truck drivers and cleaners at the International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT), Vallarpadam, was called off on Wednesday.
The strike was withdrawn following the decision to relax the norms to allow cleaners inside the terminal as a temporary measure.It was decided that the unions and workers would resume normal truck operations with immediate effect. The decisions were taken during the talks held by the Port Trust Secretary. The issue was discussed with the port authorities, IGTPL authorities, Custom House Agents Association, Steamer Agents Association and Truck Owners Association.

It was also decided to allow cleaners to have food and attached facilities from the canteen inside the drivers' reception through the man entry gate at the terminal.During the talks between the officials and the trade unions on Wednesday evening, it was decided that cleaners would be allowed entry through the man entry gate after issuing the usual passes. However, their movement would be regulated by the authorities.

During the talks, the unions highlighted the need to provide better basic amenities to the cleaners inside the compound of the ICTT.
