BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) claims that Sandeep, the two-and-a-half-year-old allegedly mauled to death by stray dogs, did not die because of a dog attack.Through a forensic report from Florida, the BBMP claims that the case details are inconsistent with other cases of dog bite deaths. They suspect the cause of his death to be an accident or murder. On July 1, Sandeep, the victim, was reportedly dragged to the bus stop near Blue bell High school in Yelahanka New Town and mauled to death by stray dogs.Following this case, BBMP’s Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme came under heavy scrutiny.Dr Piran, after examining the case details, was reluctant to believe that it was a case of a dog bite death. In a press release, he describes how he contacted the forensic experts in Florida and sent photographs and video footage from the scene of death to them. The copies of the email correspondence between Dr Piran and the odontologists in Florida point out that Dr Jim Crosby and Ken Cohrn, examined the footage and concluded that Sandeep was not killed by stray dogs.In the email sent to Dr Piran, Ken Cohrn, an odontologist, lists the number of factors that led him to believe that this was not a case of a dog bite death. The factors include the lack of blood at the scene, the symmetrical removal of the scalp without bile marks and the lack of defensive wounds. “I stand vindicated. This report rules out dog bite as a cause of death,” said Dr Piran. He said that he would send the report to the police for further investigation.“This report proves all the critics of BBMP’s ABC programme wrong,” he said. The reportThe postmortem report received by the Yelahanka New Town Police station maintains that it is in fact a dog bite death. Police sources say that BBMP’s forensic report may not have much value because the postmortem report says the exact opposite.Police sources also said that video footage and photos can hardly be used as evidence in determining the case. However they are willing to consider the report.
