London: Cherie Blair, the wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, has become UK's most high-profile victim of flu. She started feeling unwell at the beginning of the week and was diagnosed with suspected swine flu on Tuesday.
She has been put on a course of anti-viral Tamiflu. Mrs Blair, a leading barrister, was in bed battling the virus. She was forced to cancel a series of engagements, including receiving an honorary degree from Liverpool's Hope University, after being diagnosed with flu.
A spokesman for Mrs Blair said, "She has had to cancel her engagements because of a suspected case of swine flu."
54-year old Mrs Blair was to receive an honorary degree at Liverpool Hope University yesterday. She was to be given the award alongside 600 graduates receiving degrees in a ceremony at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral.
Tony Blair has been in the Middle East all week. None of the couple's four children has shown any signs of being infected, The Daily Mail reported.
