THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) B S Mavoji has lashed out at the Kerala University alleging attempts to tarnish his character by a mafia group in the University.Mavoji said he was answerable only to the government and not to the university and that his office had nothing to do with course affiliations but was connected with conduct of examinations and allotment of seats only. The Kerala University Syndicate which met here the other day had decided to seek clarification from the CEE on the allotment made to MCA course in P A Aziz College of Engineering, Trivandrum. The college had gone ahead with the admissions before getting the NOC from the varsity. The CEE had made allotments to the course which did not have the affiliation of the university. The Syndicate meeting had also decided to write to the government regarding this. It was in this context that the CEE took on the university alleging the latter of using powers which it did not have.Talking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Mavoji said that the Syndicate had sought clarification because it lacked clarity on the rules and norms. The office of the CEE made allotments on the basis of the entrance examination results. While admissions are solely the prerogative of the colleges, the affiliation is the University’s prerogative. The office of the CEE, therefore, has nothing to do with admissions or affiliation, he stressed.“The conflict has now come up because there is a mafia operating in the varsity. I feel threatened of them,” he said. Mavoji said he would seek police protection and file a complaint with the KU Chancellor (Governor) in the matter.
