CCTV Caught Rape-Murder Accused Staring at RG Kar Victim Day Before Crime, Then He Struck Well Past Midnight

The noose is tightening around Sanjay Roy, the accused in the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case, after CCTV footage, his “confession”, and scientific evidence established his presence near the 31-year-old victim a day before the crime.

Sources told CNN-News18 that Roy, during his interrogation by Kolkata Police, confessed that he had observed the victim at the chest medicine ward on August 8, a day before the crime. CCTV footage of the ward also corroborates that Roy — a 33-year-old civic volunteer who had easy access to the hospital — was in the ward at around 11am — the same time when the victim and four other junior doctors were present in the ward.

“The CCTV footage captures Roy glaring towards them,” the sources added.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is taking on record the statements of the four doctors to understand if anyone observed Roy in the ward.

Evidence so far suggests the victim entered the seminar hall at around 1am on August 9. She was last seen at 2.30am when, according to sources, a junior doctor revealed speaking to her at the seminar hall. The doctor added that the 31-year-old “went back to sleep” after their conversation.

Roy has been captured on CCTV, entering the hospital at 4am and the agency suspects that the crime is likely to have been committed around this time.

‘SEXUAL PERVERT, NO REMORSE’

Sources in the agency, which is probing the heinous crime that has sparked massive outrage, said Roy appears to be a “sexual pervert” with “animal-like instincts” who has shown no remorse during his questioning.

The sources added that Roy, while confessing to the crime, narrated the sequence of events without a hint of emotion during his psychometric tests.

The post-mortem report of the 31-year-old doctor said her death was primarily due to “manual strangulation associated with smothering”. It said that the doctor had abrasions on her cheeks, lips, nose, neck, arms and knees — and the “evidence of forceful penetration/insertion in her genitalia”. Her family and a section of experts have told the media that they suspect the involvement of multiple people, though investigators are yet to comment on this.

Roy’s involvement in the brutal crime has also thrown up questions such as how he had easy access to the hospital’s wings and how he could roam around the premises by introducing himself as a police official despite being a civic volunteer — a member of an informal state-wide unit created by the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) that helps police in traffic management and crowd management during events.

‘WOULD BEAT HIS WIFE’

Since the case hit headlines, several people have shared stories of Roy’s misdemeanour, including his former mother-in-law.

The woman claimed that Roy would beat his then wife and alleged that he “bashed” his three-month pregnant wife, causing a miscarriage. She also demanded that Roy be “hanged” for his crime.

Probe into Roy has revealed that he had multiple failed marriages. Cops also found porn on his mobile phone and several media reports indicate he drank and visited two brothels before unleashing brutality on the trainee doctor.

Sources indicate that Roy had a history of inappropriate behaviour with women at the hospital.
