Former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh has now undergone 15 days of questioning by the Central Bureau of Investigation, including lie-detection and voice analysis tests, in the alleged rape-murder of a trainee doctor at the premier medical institution.
But, sources told CNN-News18 that he is trying to deflect blame on why the hospital authorities misled the woman doctor’s parents on the night of the incident, as well as allowing the crime scene to remain unattended for at least 40 minutes.
Having analysed Ghosh’s answers over a fortnight, the question still remains as to why he — the principal at that time — was not immediately informed about the death and why there was a delay of 30 minutes in doing so after the body was discovered. In the interim, hospital officials purportedly informed the parents and floated the death by suicide theory.
According to the sources, the CBI has repeatedly questioned Ghosh and even conducted a polygraph to figure out if there are inconsistencies in his answers during the interrogation. The agency is also investigating why his “aides” were present inside the seminar hall when he has claimed that he initially did not have any information about the medic’s death, they said.
Here is what Ghosh has told the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the last 15 days:
- Ghosh allegedly told the CBI that he was informed about the death at RG Kar hospital around 10.20 am on August 9. The body was discovered at 9.30 am, while the police were informed at 10.10 am (after at least 40 minutes of the body being discovered)
- He has claimed that he received a phone call from Sumit Roy Tapadar, an associate professor in the department of respiratory medicine, at 10 am (30 minutes after the body was discovered) but he could not receive this call as he was in the washroom
- Sources said the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital further told the CBI that he called Tapadar back at 10.20 am, which is when he was first informed about the death
- He has claimed that he immediately left for RG Kar hospital and, en route, called the incharge of the Tala police station, who told him he knew about the incident and the police were at the spot
- Ghosh told the CBI that he also called the medical superintendent, head of department of chest medicine and Rogi Kalyan Samiti chairman on his way and reached the hospital at 11 am, sources said.
