PALAKKAD/CHENNAI: The CBI raided the godown of Megha Distributors at Kunathurmedu, owned by the lottery don Santiago Martin, in connection with the investigation into the illegal sale of the lottery tickets and the outbreak of fire in the godown. There was also a raid on the office of the music channel SS Music owned by Martin in Chennai.The CBI team under DySP N Ravindranathan Nair raided the Kurudikaad office of Megha Distributors, where the godown and the office of M J Associates are located, and the head office of Megha at Kunathurmedu. The raids which began at 9 a.m. on Monday continued till 7 p.m. Around 80 documents of the bank transactions of Megha distributors and the details of ticket sales since 2005, were reportedly seized. Many computers and papers were damaged in a fire at the godown on September 20, 2009. An enquiry by the KSEB electrical inspectorate had ruled out any short circuit and the Palakkad south police had charged a case against the employees of the office in this regard. A total of 32 cases related to the sale of illegal lottery tickets by Megha Distributors were handed over to the CBI for investigation by the state government. Of these, three cases are related to Palakkad. They were regarding the mysterious fire in the godown, the transportation of the lotteries of other states into Kerala, without paying the required advance tax at the checkpost and the illegal sale of lottery tickets in Palakkad district even after the ban.
