NELLORE: A three-member CBI team led by its joint director V Lakshminarayana, which conducted the searches at the Krishnapatnam port and other places to get details of the exports of iron ore by the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) owned by G Janardhana Reddy, has reportedly found several irregularities at every stage of exports. The agency is all set to file a charge-sheet in the case shortly. According to sources, the agency has found that as many as 2,000 trucks operated daily from Obulapuram in Anantapur district to the port in Nellore district, each carrying 40 to 55 tonne of iron ore as against the permitted load of 15 tonne each. However, the CBI officials were tight-lipped on how many companies were involved in iron ore exports from the Krishnapatnam port between 2007 and April 2009 and what OMC’s share was. They simply said investigation was complete and a charge-sheet would be filed in a day or two.It is learnt that the CBI found serious irregularities in the export of iron ore, estimated at about 42 lakh tonne, from the port by some 80 companies but only 14 lakh tonne was recorded since 2007. The CBI team was able to get hold on some crucial documents during its visit to the customs office after questioning its assistant commissioner K Ranga Rao on Thursday. Not satisfied with the answers given by Krishnapatnam port authorities, during the raid, the CBI has issued notices to them seeking an early written reply.Meanwhile, Lakshminarayana met superintendent of police B V Ramana Kumar on Thursday and discussed road accidents involving iron ore transporting trucks on the 90-km-long national highway stretch from Kadirinaidupalle in Marripadu to the Krishnapatnam port. As per police records, 200 people died and 500 were maimed in 350 accidents involving iron ore lorries between 2007 and April 2009.
