CCTV footage from a metro station in Delhi has revealed that a newborn girl found near a foot overbridge was abandoned by a couple.

The footage showed a man and a woman place the newborn behind an advertising board at the foot-over bridge of Govindpuri Metro Station around 10 pm on Monday, and then quickly walk off.

"The girl is hardly two to three days old. She was found abandoned at the foot-over bridge in Govindpuri station by the metro staff who then informed us," police said earlier.

Police teams searched for the girl's parents but when no one could be found, she was sent to an NGO.

A case under Section 317 (exposure and abandonment of child under twelve years by parent or person having care of it) of IPC has been registered in connection with the incident, DCP (Metro) Jitendra Mani said.
