TIRUCHY: All eyes will be on Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa’s campaign for her party candidate in the Tiruchy West by-poll on October 9, as her visit is expected to turn the tide decisively in favour of the ruling party. Cut-outs, banners and hoardings have been erected by partymen at a few places, while the city is decorated with festoons and party flags at major locations. The district administration has made elaborate arrangements throughout her campaign route and the places where she will address the public. Security has been beefed up in the city and barricades have been erected at required points. A mood of apprehension among the cadre has suddenly vanished, giving place to hope and optimism. The cadre have begun giving an impression that the AIADMK has already won. Now, the party functionaries are predicting a thumping victory.DMK treasurer MK Stalin, who is camping in the city, will halt his campaign during the visit of the AIADMK supremo. His party leaders will also keep an eye on Jayalalithaa’s campaign to know the issues and promises of the ruling party’s campaign, besides the response of the people. DMK chief M Karunanidhi is expected to respond to the Chief Minister’s campaign, in his public meeting on October 10. The AIADMK leader, who will tour around the constituency and address the people at seven places, will kickstart her campaign at the new bus stand near the Periyar statue. She will address the voters at Puthur Four Roads, Nachiar Temple and Uraiyur Main Road and conclude her campaign at Edamalaipattiputhur. The election campaign can go on till 5 pm on October 11 and the by-poll will be held on October 13.
